TREASURES OF ANDALUSIA
Andalusia has endless attractions for visitors and some spectacular roads for motorbike lovers. We’ll choose minor roads with little traffic and beautiful landscapes ranging from the Costa del Sol, the forests of the Grazalema and Hornachuelos mountain ranges, the impossible boulders of the Torcal de Antequera, the Sierra Nevada mountains with the Alpujarras below and the mysterious and unknown Sierra de los Filabres, which we are especially fond of, not to mention the Andalusian cities of Seville, Málaga, Córdoba, Granada and Almería.
Dates of guided tour: 7 – 16 Apr; 6 – 15 May; 19 – 27 Sep 2020.
Arrival in Madrid and hotel transfer. Accommodation.
Collect the motorbikes early in the morning and depart for Ronda along the mountainous roads of inland Málaga. After a brief stop in Ronda, we continue through the Sierra de Grazalema National Park to Puerto de Santa María.
A panoramic tour of the beautiful city of Cádiz and its bay, before leaving in the direction of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, where we will cross the mouth of the Guadalquivir river before arriving in Seville with enough time to explore the city in the afternoon.
Breakfast and departure towards Córdoba along the northern bank of the Guadalquivir river. For those who like bends and forest landscapes, we will take a ride through the Hornachuelos park. Arrival in Córdoba at lunchtime with an afternoon free to visit the caliph city.
A quick leg to Granada, which can be extended by going to Antequera and visiting the stunning rock formations of El Torcal and the Menga cave.
Rest day for visiting one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. If you would like to visit the Alhambra, you will need to book well in advance.
A stunning route through the Alpujarras of Granada and Almería. It’s difficult to say which village is the most beautiful: Trevélez, the highest in Spain; Laroles; Paterna del Rio; the spectacular climb to Ohanes, or one of the many others. Afternoon arrival in Almería, tired but happy to have taken in the immense landscapes from the bikes.
We will start with the Tabernas desert and the famous Velefique Pass, known as the “Stelvio de Almería”, with an 11% gradient throughout the climb. The most daring of us can climb to the Tetica de Bacares at 2,200 metres above sea level, then descend to Serón, an area that produces delicious ham. On our way back, we will climb in altitude until we reach the Calar Alto Astronomical Observatory, after which we will descend over the coast of the Golfo de Gata to Almería.
If there is still time, we will visit the Los Millares archaeological site from the Bronze Age (3200 to 2200 BCE). It is a mysterious and very advanced civilisation from the south-east of Spain that laid the foundations for the city of Troy.
Our final leg takes us to the eastern part of the Costa del Sol to Málaga. Alternatively, we can ride through the lower Alpujarras or do a loop to Cabo de Gata before ending the trip in Málaga and returning the motorbikes. Accommodation in Málaga.
